Russian FM Lavrov arrives in Kazakhstan for Caspian states meeting
Astana, Jul 12 (EFE).- Russia's top diplomat, Sergey Lavrov, arrived in the Kazakh capital late Tuesday to attend a meeting of foreign ministers of the five Caspian littoral states scheduled for the following day.
Lavrov met briefly upon his arrival with Kazakh counterpart Erlan Idrissov to discuss Wednesday's meeting with the foreign ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, the three other states on the Caspian Sea.
The foreign ministers are in Astana to lay the groundwork for a summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states to be held in Kazakhstan at an unspecified date.
The last meeting of the heads of the Caspian Sea littoral states took place in the Russian city of Astrakhan in 2014.
At that summit, the five Caspian nations agreed to prohibit foreign military presence in the sea, but fell short of coming up with a delimitation plan to exploit its vast resources.

Iran hits back at US nuclear allegations
Iran has accused the United States of making fake allegations in order to justify its own nuclear weapons.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, criticized comments made by US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Clinton, has accused Iran of flouting the rules of the nuclear NON-proLiferation treaty with its uranium enrichment program. But Iran insists the US is trying to divert attention from its own nuclear arsenal.
Ramin Mehmanparast, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, "Further sanctions on Iran are closer to a physiological war rather than something efficient. They attempt to influence the public opinion negatively and play with words. Whether a new resolution will be passed or not, or fresh sanctions will be imposed or not, these speculations cannot affect Iran's determination and will."Ver video "Iran hits back at US nuclear allegations"
Hadzic held, 'Kosovo next on EU wishlist'
Serbia has fulfilled the final demands of the UN war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Ex-Croatian Serb leader - Goran Hadjich - has been arrested after eight years on the run. He's accused of atrocities during Croatia's war for independence from Yugoslavia in the early 90's, ranging from murder to religious persecution. It follows the arrest of Ratko Mladic, who was wanted for similar crimes. The detentions were key requirements of Serbia's bid to join the EU. Death toll from floods in Nigeria tops 600 as authorities race to assist victims
The death toll from floods in Nigeria this year has increased to 603 as local authorities race to get relief items to hundreds of thousands being evacuated from their submerged homes. More than 1.3 million people have been displaced by the disaster, which has affected people across 33 of Nigeria's 36 states, the nation's humanitarian affairs ministry said late Sunday. At least 340,000 hectares of land also have been affected, worsening fears of food supply disruptions. Armed conflict already has threatened production in the northwest and central regions of Nigeria, which produce much of what the country eats. The flooding has also completely destroyed more than 82,000 houses, officials said. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari directed "all concerned to work for the restoration of normalcy," according to a statement issued by the presidency. Nigeria experiences annual flooding especially in coastal areas but this year's floods are the worst in more than a decade. Authorities blame the

Russian, Chinese presidents agree on initiative to end Korean conflict
The Russian and Chinese foreign ministries released a statement in which they gave details on the plan, asking that North Korea voluntarily announce a moratorium on their nuclear and missile tests, the latest of which occurred earlier on Tuesday.
They also asked that the US and South Korea abandon their military maneuvers and expressed their rejection of the use of force, defending the importance of peaceful co-existence.
Moscow and Beijing expressed their profound concern over this latest test, which they said was an unacceptable act that went against United Nations Security Council resolutions.
They also insisted that the American anti-missile shield deployed in southeast Asia represented a huge blow to strategic security interests for countries in the region, including Russia and China.
The two countries said Pyongyang's concerns had to be respected and other countries had to make an effort to renew ties and jointly create an atmosphere of peace and mutual trust.
North Korea announced on Tuesday morning that it had launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile, which they claimed could reach the US, although Russia insisted that it was, in fact, medium-range and thus posed no threat to the North American country.

China earthquake 2010 CNN Footage 6.9-7.1
The quake, which struck at 7:49 a.m. in Qinghai Province, had a magnitude of 7.1 according to Chinas earthquake administration.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake struck in Yushu County, a remote and mountainous area sparsely populated by farmers and herders, most of them ethnic Tibetans. The region is pocked with copper, tin and coal mines and rich in natural gas. A government Web site said the countys population was around 80,000.
The China Earthquake Networks Center said the epicenter was in Yushu County, a sparsely populated area that is home to farmers and herders, most of whom are ethnic Tibetans.
China National Radio said that more than 80 percent of the homes in the area had collapsed but that schools and government buildings had largely remained standing.
Karsum Nyima, an employee of a local television station in Yushu, told the national television broadcaster, CCTV, that the quake had sent people running into the streets.
All of a sudden, the houses collapsed, he said. It was a terrible earthquake. In the park, a Buddhist pagoda fell down. Everyone is in the street in front of their houses. They are trying to find family members.
In the same broadcast, Wu Yong, an officer in the Chinese Army, said that the road to the airport was impassable and that soldiers were digging out people from collapsed homes by hand.
The most important thing now is that this place is far from everything, with few accessible rescue troops available, Mr. Wu said. I feel like the number of dead and injured will keep going up.
Local officials said that phone service was limited and that rescue efforts were stymied by a lack of heavy equipment. Medical supplies and tents, they added, were in short supply.
State news media reported that 700 paramilitary officers were already working in the quake zone and that another 3,000 troops would be sent to the area to assist in search and rescue efforts. The civil affairs ministry said it would also send 5,000 tents and 50,000 blankets.
Last August, Golmud was hit by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake that destroyed dozens of homes but caused no deaths. Qinghai is an ethnic melting pot of Tibetans, Mongols and Han Chinese. It is adjacent to Sichuan Province, where at least 87,000 people died in a powerful earthquake in 2008Ver video "China earthquake 2010 CNN Footage 6.9-7.1"
